MOTHERS NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME - REALLY

Today’s the anniversary of the day my mom brought me into the world. I’ve always had a high regard for motherhood and my mom has always been at the top of my list. She was born in a little Cajun town like me and was named Hazel Lucille by her parents - my grandmother Rose and my grandfather Armand. I owe them all a great deal of gratitude, not just for giving me the opportunity to stumble around in this crazy world, but by instilling in me honesty and straight-forwardness, a love of life, a thirst to know, the drive to get things done, patience and a compassion for people.

Not everything was big and important, of course. Some were taught with a little humor and even frustration, but I usually got the message and remember them even today. These are some of the "little" things both my mom and “gram” passed on to me:

You can’t eat and digest your food at the same time.

Never answer the phone on the first ring.

A thing worth doing is worth doing well.

Your chickens will come home to roost.

Don’t sit close to the TV or you’ll ruin your eyes.

You’ve buttered your bed, now lie in it. *lol*

Little dogs go to the bathroom on big wheels.

Never start the day on an empty stomach.

Oh, you’re going run away from home? Well, don’t forget to write!

Sit up straight!

Thanks Mom … and Gram. I owe you a lot and a whole lot more, even though there are some who might question how good a job you did on me. I know you tried. It certainly wasn't your fault. You did your best and I appreciate it.

I think we could all be better, and feel better, if we paid attention just a little more and acted right. Don't you think?

Because the world is round it turns me on
Because the world is round

Because the wind is high it blows my mind
Because the wind is high

Love is all, love is new
Love is all, love is you

Because the sky is blue, it makes me cry
Because the sky is blue

Yikes! This is how far out of the loop I am--your day completely slipped my mind. I hope you had a good birthday, despite having a negligent friend.

Oh, don't feel bad Christine. I'm just a guy! ;-)

Sometimes we have to run in a few other circles before getting back into the loop.

I'd rather give credit where credit's due anyway, and I had fun "reminiscing" with my mom about when my brother and me were babies. I found out I had to sleep in a baby buggy until I was well past 2.

I was afraid you'd miss my post because I actually posted those lyrics with you in mind, so I'm glad you did see it.

Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Yep. My grandmother was the kindest person I've ever known. She had to leave school to care for her own invalid mother, which she did for 19 years. She had many physical problems herself but never complained. My mom was a lot like her, except she managed to do a lot of things on her own her mother wasn't able to do, including running a tax preparing service out of the back of her home. Mom was a great bowler even and once bowled a 627 series. Had a beautiful natural hook. My grandmother was and my mom is still very much loved.

Oh, don't think a thing about it. I know you've got a lot going. That was sweet of you to finally remember though and I appreciate it. Hope your family situation calms down too. You're in my prayers. :-)
