when albums were really albums

***
THE LAST NINE ALBUMS I PLAYED THIS WEEK

I like vinyl. I like the sound of it. I like the look of it. I like the feel of it. I like that you can see where the sounds come from, where diamonds track in grooves, and how sometimes the music is accompanied by its own unique crackles, rumbles, and moans.

I like old things ... imperfect things. The things people go back to, or sometimes dig up as new discoveries. You can tell quite a bit about people by the things with which they surround themselves. How many sunsets they might have seen. What might make them smile, or laugh, or cry. What they remember and miss so badly. An album can be a portrait, or a diary, even a sedative.

These are the last nine vinyl albums I played this week. As you can tell, I haven't bought any in quite a while, and I have seen a few sunsets in my life.

I lost a lot of my albums in Katrina. I saved most of them, although some of the jackets are a little worse for the wear and the experience of drowning. I pull out these albums, and others, to listen to from time to time because they make me feel good and remind me of things I love.

If you ask nicely, I'll write about a reminiscence based on any of the albums you choose from this selection. If not, well I still have them for myself, and there they have their greatest reality.

I have several...

One is a Garrard stereo, I have a simple Yorx stereo with dual cass and 3 changer CD, and recently I bought one of those digital turntables that is supposed to convert to music you can play on the computer. I also have one of those Crosley tweed cases that I like to play my 78's on... It also has a radio but it doesn't sound very good.

Hah! One of my favorites. I love it. I think the singer died of cancer. I forget her name now. Sorry!

Have you ever noticed my Waitresses Icon?
