WHO DAT say they OWN the language of the people?

Here we are, NFL! Come and get us!

Katrina couldn't keep us down. Do you think an army of lawyers from "Hahvard" are going to bother us?

Who dat ... who dat ... who dat???

Now I'm really angry!

That's absolutely ridiculous. I do hope folks continue to do what they're doing and fight any attempts by the NFL to bring legal punishment. It shouldn't be too hard to demonstrate that the chant has pre-existed any kind of NFL related marketing. A few of the blog postings on the related articles seemed to point that way.

One great thing about being a lifelong Pittsburgh Steeler fan is I won't have to go out and buy new colors to root for the Saints next weekend! (I know, it ain't exact, but it'll do)!

I can understand NFL Properties stuff, images, logos, etc., but to say that "Who Dat" is licensed to the NFL is stupid.

When a local school, St. Augustine, originally used the "Who Dat" chant back in the 70s, I was reminded of a vaudeville routine I'd read as a kid in a book on American humor.

A guy knocks on a door and a voice says, "Who dat?"

The guy says, "Who dat say who dat?"

And so on ...

That's actually the first time I'd heard it.

I'm guessing the expression goes back to the early 20th century and maybe earlier.

All that aside, it's nice to kick back at the big dogs once in a while. :-D
