what ever happened to critical thinking?

***
ARE YOU ONE OF THE PEOPLE ACTUALLY AFRAID TO EXPRESS AN OPINION
BECAUSE YOU MIGHT SUFFER A BACKLASH PERSONALLY OR PROFESSIONALLY?

A recent study I read indicated as much, confirming what we all know already just from common sense and personal experience.

It's funny, isn't it? We live in a country with more "guaranteed" freedoms in the history of the world and yet one political ideology, that of the left, is intent on suppressing each and every one of them.

Yeah, isn't it funny?

When I was young and rebellious and questioned authority, I took everything I heard from adults, my teachers, the media, salesmen, and especially politicians with a grain of salt and a healthy dose of skepticism.

If anyone told me someone was to be avoided or disbelieved, it made me want to hear what they had to say. I said what I thought, and no one intimidated me, or blackballed me, or tried to hurt me. They may have tried to ridicule me, and I gave back better than they gave ... or tried to. There was robust dialogue.

Times sure have changed. It started in college where I noticed that, over the years, for I was addicted to learning and loved to go back for more punishment, the free exchange of ideas was not exactly thriving anymore and had been replaced by a hardened entrenchment of ideology at the expense of any disagreement.

I was lucky in my earlier days in that I had so many teachers who exposed us to different ideas, no all but many, and pretty much kept their own opinions to themselves and allowed us to discovered truth for ourselves. Sometimes we did and sometimes we went off on the wrong path but we were at least critical thinkers and eventually recognized crap when we got close enough to smell it.

That has changed over the years where now, people in positions of influence and authority, want to be the arbiters of what people know and fashioners of how they think.

Hence the need to demonize and destroy the best and purest among us today lest their voices be heard and their arguments considered - and all executed by fringe elements that must disguise their intentions and misrepresent their agendas.

There will always be the dull and imaginative and self-centered who will latch onto anything that sounds appealing to them personally. They will lap up arguments that their status in life is someone else’s fault, as they do in so many places across the globe … and now here in America.

But I have faith in the growing few, especially among the young, who even in their sometimes selfish indulgences, instinctively and intellectually know crap when they are exposed to enough of it … whether from their parents, their teachers, their friends, and those most despicable of creatures - politicians and political hacks.

From these will come our new leaders. They have to … or all will certainly be lost. And that is too horrible a fate to be contemplated.

The shrill voices are getting shriller today as virtually the entire media are doing their best to promote an agenda, to participate in an effort to harm and silence people who don't think like them, and I only hope these young people aren't buying into the crap they're being fed.
