THE LOCAL TALK SHOWS HERE ARE DISCUSSING 'TIME TRAVEL' AFTER THE 'REVELATION' FROM STEPHEN HAWKING THAT HE BELIEVES 'TIME TRAVEL' IS POSSIBLE'

Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a movie and want to say, "Okay, let's go. This is where we came in."

This is a PRIME example of what I talk about all the time, how the media spread misinformation and how people are made to believe things that aren't true.

It's what's meant when they say, "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing."

Anyway, they've been talking about what period of time people might want to go back to and whether it might be possible to change history and so forth.

After all, Stephen hawking says it's possible.

Sorry to be the one to bring truth and accuracy to yet another mindless debate, but this is NOT what Stephan Hawking was talking about.

I think I've written way about about the time my cousin and I were in the back seat of my parents station wagon on a trip back from visiting relatives and we were throwing a ball back and forth.

It occurred to me that relative to the space we were driving through the ball was not going in a straight line but in a long diagonal ... the faster we went the longer the diagonal.

I was never quite the same since. ;-)

You see, even though Einstein had "discovered" special and general relatively, my 11 or 12 year old mind grasped it in an instant independent of knowing what relatively was.

This is what Hawking is referring to as well ... and it is nothing new.

A clock traveling faster and faster through space would "slow down" relative to an independent observer. If you want proof, ask and I'll explain it to you.

It follows, therefore, that if people were able to attain speeds approaching the speed of light (which may or may not be possible) they could theoretically travel years, even centuries into the "future" and return, if possible, to a much older world having aged only a fraction of that of the inhabitants.

Sorry though ... you can shorten or lengthen the passage of time relative to each frame of reference, slow down or sped up a clock, but you can't go back in time.

That's it in a nutshell, but it doesn't matter. Some people will continue to misquote and misinterpret Hawking just as they do most current events and virtually every other statement, happening, or fact they encounter because ... well, people just don't pay attention and aren't concerned with details anyway.

Which is why I was sent here so many many years ago to set things straight. ;-)

It still drives me nuts! :-D
