ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS PITCHER EDWIN JACKSON PITCHED HIMSELF INTO THE RECORD BOOKS TONIGHT ... A 1-0 NO-HITTER AGAINST TAMPA BAY

It wasn't easy.

He'd walked 7 betters in the first three innings and was dangerously close to being pulled for a relief pitcher.

He wriggled out of jam-after-jam and from the 4th inning on settled in and wound up with the third no-hitter in the major leagues this year and only the second ever by a Diamondbacks pitcher.

He threw 149 pitches which, these days, is virtually unheard of.

With all of the smears and jeers directed toward Arizona in recent weeks this certainly comes as a welcome "Take that and shove it!" break.

I'm sure leftists all across America are gnashing their teeth at the news that there's so much joy in Phoenix tonight.

As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are having the videos of the game reviewed pitch-by-pitch in case they might want to sue Major League Baseball to force Commissioner Bud Selig to reverse the gem.

And I'm sure the umpiring crew will be avoiding the phone lest they be summoned to the Oval office to explain their calls to the President.

That's all we'd need ... for the government to nationalize the national past-time as it has 2/3 of the car industry, the banks, Wall Street, student loans, health care, and is trying to do with the oil, gas, coal, and energy sector in general and with just about anything else it can get its hands on.

But for now, the bureaucrats and Arizona-haters can't touch Edwin Jackson and we can all dream in our fields of dreams. Edwin Jackson has been immortalized in baseball lore - a big deal for a 26 year-old guy with a 43-45 record over parts of 8 seasons.

Born in Germany in 1983, son of retired U.S. Army Sgt. Edwin Jackson, who'd have thunk it, huh? I'll bet his dad knew it all the time.

It goes to show that good things can happen if you work hard and refuse to give up.

That's what I love about baseball ... and life.
