dave brubeck takes five ...

***
GONE A DAY BEFORE HIS 92ND BIRTHDAY HIS TIME JUST RAN OUT

As you can see from a few very old albums from my stacks of wax, we go back a long way.

From the notes on the back of the album Time Out ... about the unusual Paul Desmond 5/4 time jazz hit composition Take Five (get it?) that actually topped the pop charts - it had a piano pulse referred to as "one of the most defiant time signatures in all music" overlaid with "intricate counter-patterns over the piano figure".

We just knew it was swingin' cool.

I think I have a newer album of Time Out somewhere but I'll have to look. This one still sounds fine but I was always very careful with my albums. Katrina wasn't so kind.

Oh but those were happy days my friends!

Never more.

The time gets shorter.

Rest in peace Dave Brubeck.

It's a shame that such an artist has to drop dead for the world to be reintroduced to their genius. So many of the pieces I have heard the past couple days... I knew them, but not who did them. One of the downsides to instrumental music is that it is difficult to look up music sometimes if you have no lyrics to reference.

It's been a good listen.
