Link Wray

I read in manos99's journal the other day that Link Wray had died. I just read about it myself on AOL. He died November 5. This is the comment I wrote when I first heard about it:

"I didn't know Link Wray was gone.

There are many moments I can recall as if it were yesterday. One of them is riding down a dark river road next to the levee toward Seven Oaks Plantation a year or so after the last devastating hurricane that hit New Orleans prior to Katrina, Hurricane Betsy, buffeted the city and flooded the 9th ward.

Seven Oaks, unoccupied for many years, and already in a shameful state of decay, suffered a fatal blow from Betsy. I can still remember driving toward it with friends on a hot August Friday night for the last time with Rumble resonating through my am radio. Rumble was already 10 years old then but a mainstay on the a.m. stations that catered to the cruising crowd, the party crowd, and the couples who drove to the lakefront to watch the "submarine races."

Those were good times. You did good Link."
