A SHOT FROM THE WILD
AND A FEW THOUGHTS ON MNF

In case anyone wants to read a few of my thoughts on the Saints win Monday, my letter was published in The Times Picayune. As usual, they chopped off my best line:

http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/letterstoeditor/index.ssf?/base/news-8/1159337054130960.xml&coll=1

Also, I can't compete with my dear friend tniassaint when it comes to nature photography, but he does inspire me. Here's one shot I took with my little Canon A610 between jogs at Jean Lafitte State Park. It looks like it loses a little sharpness in photobucket. The original is noticeably sharper. Any suggestions Mike? Oh, and it's pretty scary so you have been warned:

WE CALL THEM MOSQUITO HAWKS HERE

Stop walking down my street

Who did you expect to meet?

Whatever you're looking for

Hey, don't come around here no more

heheheh. Didn't mean to startle you. But you are not a woman so I will just shake your hand in a manly way and welcome you back.

That's a very cool picture, hon. And, I may be from Atlanta, now, but I was rooting your boys on. By the way, what was the line they cut?

Thanks, sweetie! :)

This is the original letter as I wrote it:

We didn't dare blink for fear it might all be a mirage. I almost expected my nephew to turn to me and say he saw angels behind each Saints player, and two behind Coach Sean Payton. If truth be told, if you looked really closely, it did seem those Saints' shadows draped across the Dirty Bird receivers could have been wearing halos.

It was timeless. It was ethereal. It was a lesson for the ages for all who are downtrodden and disillusioned. And it came from, until now, the unlikeliest of tutors ... out beloved Saints. It was teamwork, determination, inspiration, and preparation personified, and 13 months of frustration coming to a rolling boil. God bless you boys, and God bless the people of Louisiana.

Hope you and the family are doing better. You've been in my thoughts and prayers, as you well know. :)

Thank you, hon. We're managing. Mr. Ed's boss's wife raises Australian Shepard's - totally different from Australian Cattle dogs - and they have offered us a puppy. We contemplated seeing it last weekend, but it was way to soon for me. We've talked about it, and might see it this weekend. It won't be available for about two more weeks, so we'll see what happens. I didn't want to post this in my journal, but I felt safe telling you. The kids need a dog. My eldest was really good with Pepper, and was crushed that he had done something wrong. We reassured him that no one had done anything wrong, and it's in some dog's hardwiring. Plus, he was a stray. We don't know if he was full Cattle dog or not. (Probably not, since he was dumped.)

Anyway, enough about me; I loved your letter. It's too bad that editors feel a need to cut a line here or there. A letter isn't fully realized unless printed in its entirety. *hugs* hon

Re: Holy Bejesus!
Uhhh ... what woman isn't shallow? Thank God I'm strikingly handsome and rich too. ***LOL*** That's a JOKE!

Poor little dragonfly. They need love too, Theresa ... at least I think they do. I wonder if the Dragondamsels are shallow too? :)

Re: hehe
Actually no, but I'm familiar with it. A friend of mine saw a French-subtitled version and it was called La Libellule. Maybe I should try to locate it from the library one day.

Yep
I think you'd enjoy it. It's Kevin Costner, which I don't REALLY like, but I thought it was one of his better films.

Actually, Ed - it's rather nice. I can see the sharpness issue. I reedited and kicked it up some, but it is ok.

I edit EVER photo I post. sorry for the tech speak - but I increase the resolution, then do all my corrections for color and contrast; I crop if needed and then resave at the size and resolution I want.

I edited the contrast and size on this, increased the sharpness and left it alone. If I had shot it I would be proud of it as well. The color is nice - a litte washed in the highlights. The colors are understated, but that is a hard thing to control.

Getting the stick and not being afraid to frame off the tail was a good call. I like it.

One thing I have learned about dragons is to TRY to focus on the eyes and shoot for a wide depth of field. You are very close to what I would have done here. NICE !

I love that song... and the video they made for it.

Glad it was a short break... glad to see you again.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I shoot at my highest resolution but, of course, I have limitations with lighting, my lens, and having to hand-hold my camera steady. Plus, in macro, the viewfinder is off center. I play with it a little in my HP Image Zone and do have a good eye for cropping and balance. The original has the entire dragonfly but I was trying to emphasize the harmony of the shot in the balance between the twig, the body and head, and the wings of the DF. I may try a flash next time to see what happens although I'm thinking it'll be too harsh and will wash everything out. I wish I could have gotten a better shot of the purple one but it was in a shaded area. It was just my first attempt though. Thanks again!

Pretty good for a first attempt... The flash should be ok since it is built in and integrated to the system. If worried look for an EV setting This is where you can force the camera to over or underexpose the shot. Go one or two UNDER. I often shoot between a half to one and a half under because digital is tricky. Not all cameras have this, yours does, but you might have to look for it.

Cute Icon. Love the fluttering eyelashes. We used to love catching dragonflies and letting them "bite" us on the finger or hand. I was just a tiny little kid when I saw my first and I thought it was a fairy. **LOL**

P, I was wondering when you would post again. I never get to come over anymore it seems like I'm to busy or to lazy to go for a visit. I wish I lived next door to you then when I wanted I could see you any time I got lonesome. At least I can read your thoughts when I want. I miss you bad I had a dream about all of us last night. We were all together again just like we always were. I miss that soooo much I woke up crying this morning. Mom had a bad one too last night. I wonder sometimes will we ever all be the same. I'm supposed to start school on wednesday but my week is booked trying to get ready for the festival. I'm supposed to go shopping for stuff on tuesday. If your spirits are up and you want to get out I will pick you up and we can go get supplies and go to lunch I will pick Tay up from school after. Think about it let me know. I will be at work Saturday and Sunday 12 hrs. per day. My phone is back working again. Call me love ya lots. Pip
