that music meme I began yesterday

So far three friends (and now another lj Tori Amos lover) have combined to identify 15 of the 21 songs from my list, and a few of those were the titles I didn't think anyone would know. Of course I am humbled, because my overall knowledge of music is shaky. I pretty much stick to things I like. There are songs I know but have never actually heard in their entirety because I turn them off as soon as I hear the opening notes.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, these are the seven yet to be identified. I added a second line to the lyrics, just in case anyone else wants to give them a shot.

EDIT: Okay, I guess everyone's done with this so I'll reveal the titles of the songs. I'll put them behind a cut in case anyone comes in late and still wants to try:

2. Spread out now Rosie, doctor come cut loose her mama's reins
You know playin' blind man's bluff is a little baby's game

Rosalita (Won't You Come Out Tonight) by Bruce Springteen from The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle, one of my favorites ... Great beat and lyrics, and I heard this live at the New Orleans Theater of the Performing Arts.

7. I know a dark secluded place,
a place where no one knows your face
A glass of wine a fast embrace

Hernando's Hideaway by my all-time favorite dancer and a wonderful comedic actress with that slight huskiness to her voice (the story was she addicted to eating crayons as a child and had lots of throat problems when she was young) that I love. No beauty she, but how she could move and so sexy and endearing in a scatterbrained earthy way (as Gladys Hotchkiss, her only movie role outside of a few dance scenes in a few musicals). Incredibly under-used. I just love her. She was primarily a broadway actress and choreographer. Died at age 39.

9. All that you suffer is all that you are
All that you smother is all that you are

Suffer from Smashing Pumpkins Gish album (before the "The" was added. Very rich layered sounds I think and not so wild as some layered stuff.

16. I was born in a pool, they made my mother stand
And I spat on that surgeon and his trembling hand

Jim Carroll's Catholic Boy from album of same name. Love the lyrics and the raw energy, plus I'm Catholic and can relate to a degree.

17. Way down South, in Birmingham, I mean South, in Alabam'
There's a place where people go to dance the night away

Tuxedo Junction, this version by Manhattan Transfer. Great big band tune, lots of fun with great harmonies. Check this sample out:

Boop bop, Boop Bop
Boop bop, Boop Bop

Love it! **LOL**

18. Lily is dancing on the table, we’ve all been pushed too far
I guess on days like this you know who your friends are

I just love Tori Amos although not always in tune with some of her issues and opinions. This is Taxi Ride, one of my favorite, very visual, sensual, and rather dreamy I think.

19. The one good thing in my life has gone away
I don't know why she's gone away I don't know where

Fine Young Cannibals - Good Thing. Followed She Drives Me Crazy on The Raw & the Cooked, one of my favorite back-to-backs.

Jeff, who is so obviously like me in so many ways except the good ones, leads the pack with eight, count'em, eight correct answers. Of course he has a monitor strapped to his eyeglasses and jumped on the lyrics before anyone had taken a deep breath. Christine and Kat were behind with three apiece, although those totals probably would have been higher had not Jeffy been so quick on the keyboard.

I'll wait to see if there are any stragglers that want to play, then reveal the answers later this evening. I know Mike's out of town and probably could have answered most of them himself, but he can still play if he can read the lyrics and doesn't peek at the answers. Of course I trust him implicitely.

I'll bet you can't wait, huh. **LOL**

You have numerous talents and many more good qualities ... offhand I can't think of any, but I'm sure they're there. :P

I'm thinking of doing a post where I write the many insults I've given to my friends here and then see if anyyone can guess who they were aimed at.

Watching the Cardinals hopefully beat the Tigers tonight. Just made two crispy fried egg sandwiches. I was sick all last night from dairy and hope this can straighten me out. Xeenie told me to take it easy. She can be so sweet sometimes ... when she gets in the mood. **LOL**

Xeenie is always sweet, isn't she?

Hope you're feeling better!

Mmmmmm, fried egg sandwiches!

Huh???? Oh, I get it. Yeah. Right! Always!! ;)

Yes, fried egg sandwiches rule. I just ate them. I like to crisp both side and cook them until the yolks are just barely runny.
