music meme part three - a little twist

***
I THOUGHT IT'D BE FUN TO PUT UP LYRICS OF
SOME OF MY FAVORITE NOVELTY SONGS

Yes, I loved to laugh at these classic songs, most of which had actual airplay on the stations I listened to growing up, many others I heard regularly on The Dr. Demento Show. Now please, since I know Jeff will probably guess about 18 out of 24 (pressure), try to guess them yourself if you want to play, which I hope you will. Here's a little reminder of the way this works:

Step 1: Put your MP3 player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) of the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: NO CHEATING (that goes for the guesser, too!)

So, here they are. Please laugh along with me, will ya?

***

1 - I told the witch doctor I was in love with you -
Jeff

2 - Valley Girl, she's a Valley Girl
Valley Girl, she's a Valley Girl
Okay, fine... fer sure, fer sure

With all the news that is news across the nation

6 - That famous day in history
the men of the 7th Cavalry went riding on
And from the rear a voice was heard
A brave young man with a trembling word
rang loud and clear...
What am I doin' here?

7 - Is he really goin' out with 'er?
I don't know. Look, here he comes now. Let's ask 'im.
{piano chord}
Hey, Murray, is it true Betty's wearin' your ring?
Uh-huh.

8 - You know I love that organic cooking
I always ask for more
And they call me Mr. Natural
On down to the health food store
-
Jeff

She was as nervous as she could be
-

I sleep all night and I work all day

12 - How come you're always such a fussy young man?
Don't want no Captain Crunch, don't want no Raisin Bran
Well, don't you know that other kids are starving in Japan?
-
Jeff

13 - A dinner was served for three
At Dracula’s house by the sea
The hors d’oeurves were fine
But I choked on my wine
-
Jeff

14 - Crossin' the highway late last night
He shoulda looked left and he shoulda looked right

Time for toys and time for cheer
We've been good, but we can't last
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast
-
Marlene

16 - I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
-

Jeff

19 - Remember when you ran away
And I got on my knees
And begged you not to leave

20 - After the turn of the century
In the clear blue skies over Germany
Came a roar and a thunder men had never heard
-
Jeff

21 - Tiptoe to the window,
by the window that is where I'll be
-
Jeff

And three more for lagniappe! An even two dozen!

22 - A-well-a everybody’s heard about the bird
Jeff

23 - I have a sad story to tell you
It may hurt your feelings a bit
Last night when I walked into my bathroom
I stepped in a big pile of ...
-
Jeff

24 - Bow bow bow ... um ...

That was fun! Or are you not as crazy as I am? :D

Ha ha ha!

Oh, he remembers them now. This isn't that easy, you know, although I think most of these songs are a lot easier to figure out because they're so ingrained in our brains ... at least us older guys.

Yes, I think it was officially The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late.

How do you know this kind of stuff, Hana-san? Well, Time Warp I'd figure. But did you know a lot of the others too?

Tee hee, yeah, I'm sure he does, Shoji-kun. ^_~ Guess I must be one of those 'older guys', too, then, 'cuz a good number of these were ingrained in what's left of my brain.

I knew #'s 1, 2, 3, 9, 11, 15 (I have the 45 rpm of that, & one or 2 of their others, as well), 16, 21, & 23, & had an inkling about 12, 13, & 20. I'm a child of the 70s/80s, y'know. Lots of cartoons & novelty songs in the ol' repertoire. In fact, one of my favourite albums I had as a kid was this 8-track:

My mom found the one we had, but it doesn't work anymore. Someday, I'm hoping to get another copy of it.
