Apparently, a young male Nigerian Muslim with ties to al Qaeda, who'd been banned from the UK, whose own father warned authorities about his radicalism 6 months ago, who hop-scotched across Europe and Africa before coming to America, who boarded a plane without a passport, no luggage, a one-way ticket paid for in cash did not interest the likes of Janet Napolitano who, no doubt, empathize and sympathize with little jihadists like Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab.

Napolitano did provide some comic relief. After the 80 gram packet of highly explosive PETN, a compound related to nitro-glycerin, failed to ignite and two passengers restrained the terrorist from trying again while a fire blazed in his lap, Napolitano laughingly declared that “the system worked!”

I spent part of the afternoon with my three-year old niece, telling her stories about Christmases past, about a Calvin and Hobbes Christmas card I received, and especially how a little mouse used to watch over me to see if I had been naughty or nice and report back to Santa.

She was fascinated and somewhat astounded (you see, she never hears the things she hears from her Uncle Ed).

I also told her the Story of Heidi, and how the housekeeper broke her little snow globe (like hers), and then read Little Red Riding Hood and half of The Ugly Duckling before she finally passed out and took her nap.

I've never a bad Christmas. There's always something good and heartwarming to hold onto, no matter what's happening to you, if you look for it, and even though it might take years to realize.

He then switched from “tree ring” interpretations of temperatures and spliced surface temperature records (red) from the 20th century … mixing apples and oranges, if you want to get technical and starting with the huge El Nino effect of 1998 as his starting point. The yellow areas are the variations in temperature that were removed to produce a seemingly more stable record, btw. Makes you wonder if you're seeing what's really supposed to be there. I wonder if the "mean" temperature that is used as a baseline has any validity at all. Maybe there's some kind of explanatation of why he would do that ... I wonder.

That was about the time a lot of my "friends" and others started attacking me personally for my "idiotic" beliefs and arguments.

I'm so happy to have them out of my life and where they belong ... on the wrong side of history.
