His speech is minutes away, and his handlers should be concerned because so far his excellent massive star-studded photo-op adventure across the globe has not yet resulted in a bump in the polls.

I think I know why but I'll save that for later. Maybe he'll hit a home-run today. He's FOLLOWING a FREE CONCERT so I don't know what mood the concert-goers will be in.

It also depends on how good a speech has been written for him and how carefully he tip-toes between the wishes of his hard-core leftist followers in Europe and the U.S., the ones that believe we are the bad guys, and the beliefs and needs of the average American voters he needs to impress and reassure so badly.

In the 1960's, there was a clear distinction between the dark forces of Communism and totalitarianism and the bright light of freedom and liberty. Read a short excerpt from President John F. Kennedy's 1963 Berlin speech:

There are many people in the world who really don't understand, or say they don't, what is the great issue between the free world and the Communist world. Let them come to Berlin. There are some who say that communism is the wave of the future. Let them come to Berlin. And there are some who say in Europe and elsewhere we can work with the Communists. Let them come to Berlin. And there are even a few who say that it is true that communism is an evil system, but it permits us to make economic progress. Lass' sie nach Berlin kommen. Let them come to Berlin.

You see, in those days, the communist left had to build walls to keep people in ... to keep them prisoners to tyranny. There was no talk about finding a "middle ground". How a "little" tyranny was acceptable, or not worth the money and effort to overcome. How ironic that the Democrat Party has moved so far to that left, a left that now seeks to control every aspect of our lives!

Obama's election will be difficult to pull off because he must hide what he really want to do, assure his leftist base he is really on their side, and at the same time justify his previous stands like voting against the surge, against funding the troops, even when the FACTS in front of him indicate he was wrong.

Here are a couple of note cards used by Kennedy and President Ronald Reagan in his famous, "Tear down this wall!" speech.

Kennedy/Reagan Speech Cards

Big difference from teleprompters, huh?

Obama just started his speech and is giving a history lesson to the Berliners. I hope it gets better from here. He is speaking not as a candidate, he said, but as a citizen of the world. *LOL* If it were I there, I'd begin by saying, "I AM AN AMERICAN!" - list our accomplishments and leadership throughout history, and invite them to join us in making a better world together.

I wonder if the people will stay for the entire speech? Or did they baricade the exits to prevent that possible embarrassment? We shall see.

Sounds like a safe standard liberal "we are the world" speech so far. I am embarrassed he has to speech in English. No uhs and ahems though ... teleprompter's beat speech cards any day. Oh, he just did Reagan one better. He wants to tear down a bunch of walls now. I guess the speech was written before they decided speaking at the site of the Berlin Wall was too too much.

Oh my! So the world came together after WWII (If I remember my history, think he means Germany and Japan surrendered unconditionally - thanks to the sacrifices of brave men and women who stood up to their cruel aggression). We can come together AGAIN. Psycho-babble!

Oh, and by the way, the Berlin Wall came down because President Ronald Reagan didn't only give speeches, he stood up against the Soviet Union - while being railed against by the Democrat Party, the media, and many of his own advisors. Oh, and Europe hated Reagan!

That's why Obama had to give his speech in front of the "phallic symbol" that is the Siegessaeule instead of the Brandenburg Gate. That right should be reserved for leaders who had the GUTS to stand up against evil, not to politicians who want to engage in photo-ops!

Very predictable, boring, and tacky stuff after such a buildup! Oh, my!

EDIT - Okay, the "citizen of the world" couldn't stop himself. He's trashing the United States now, apologizing for our flaws, torture, abandonment of the rule of law, antipathy to people of other races and religions, etc. Of course he'll claim he was talking about "the world" in general, but we know what he was saying and so did the crowd. He's implying he can change "our" behavior and thereby unite the world.

I wonder how the mainstream media will play this and how it will play in Iran, in Africa, in China, in Cuba, in Spain, in Venezuela, and most importantly in America?

First Berlin ... then Europe ... then the West ... then THE WORLD!

Haven't I heard something like this before?

Of course, how good a job did "Mr. Community Organizer" do bringing Chicago together?

You're right and I'm wrong
Hey babe, I'm gonna miss you now that you're gone
One sweet day
You're right, oh, and I'm wrong
You know I'm gonna miss you now that you're gone
One sweet day, one sweet day

Obama was the opening act. They had to sit though his speach to get to the Raggae jam.

I hope it was a good show.

Re: Obama-berlins
Since I'd only heard unconfirmed reports that Reggae artist Patrice and a rock band called Reamonn were supposed to play before the speech, I'll accept your version.

I know when he spoke before a crowd of 75,000 in Oregon, the Decemberists performed in a free 45-minute concert.

I did read that there was free beer and bratwursts in Berlin, but I'd guess, with a large crowd like that, that they were more likely sold by vendors.
