it's alive ... it's alive ... oh crap!

I was STUNNED when I read about this a few weeks ago. Infanticide? In our country?

I’d been digging into the story for a few weeks, but things have picked up since the Saddleback Forum the other night. In my Sunday post, concerning Barack Obama's performance, I noted that:

When asked when a baby's human rights began, Obama punted. He said he is opposed to "partial birth abortion" which is a lie. I'm waiting for his radical position on the "Born Alive" bills he so vehemently opposed in Illinois to be better publicized.

His surrogates are working overtime now to hide his position in opposing "the same state bill" that was passed in the U.S. Senate by a 98-0 vote, and to confuse facts. More on that in an upcoming post.

Well, now's the time.

Obama has given several reasons over the years for opposing the Illinois infant protection bill, but little did I know that he had actually denied (vehemently) opposing the bill that would have required medical assistance for babies born alive after botched abortions.

In responding to a question about the National Right to Life Committee’s assertion that he had misrepresented his position, Obama said:

Well and because they (the National Right to Life Committee) have not been telling the truth. And I hate to say that people are lying, but here's a situation where folks are lying. I have said repeatedly that I would have been completely in, fully in support of the federal bill that everybody supported ... which was to say ... that you should provide assistance to any infant that was born ... even if it was as a consequence of an induced abortion. That was not the bill that was presented at the state level.

What that bill also was doing was trying to undermine Roe vs. Wade. By the way, we also had a bill, a law already in place in Illinois that insured life saving treatment was given to infants.

So for people to suggest that I and the Illinois medical society, so Illinois doctors were somehow in favor of withholding life saving support from an infant born alive is ridiculous. It defies commonsense and it defies imagination and for people to keep on pushing this is offensive and it's an example of the kind of politics that we have to get beyond. It's one thing for people to disagree with me about the issue of choice, it's another thing for people to out and out misrepresent my positions repeatedly, even after they know that they're wrong. And that's what's been happening.

Guess what? He was LYING! He opposed an IDENTICAL bill, the one that passed in the U.S. Senate 98-0. Even Barbara Boxer and Ted Kennedy voted for it, which shows you how radical this man is.

Here are the two bills side-by-side:

His spokesperson, Hari Sevugan, finally admitted he opposed the "neutrality clause" version in the August 18 edition of the New York Sun:

He thought he could get away with lying, he's done it before, in debates and in interviews ... but this time he got caught, no thanks to the mainstream media.

By the way, Obama voted against a “partial birth abortion” bill in 1997 (SB-230) that would have banned the heinous procedure except in cases where the mother’s health is in danger.

In case you’re not familiar with the history of the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act, how babies "born alive" were tossed into a dirty linen room to die, and Obama's opposition, you might check out this interview with Jill Stanek, the nurse who testified (unsuccessfully) before Obama’s committee during consideration of the bill:

Mr. Obama says it’s out of his pay grade to decide when human life and a baby’s human rights begin. Apparently, he has no such hesitation in deciding when they end.

What a sad episode in this nation’s history, that human beings can be taken from their mothers’ wombs alive and then left in a dirty linen room to die … and the mainstream media have been ignoring the story. In Obama's own words, it defies commonsense and imagination.

How disgraceful! No wonder he’s been trying to hide this.

In a stroke of irony, a 23 week premature baby thought dead and stored in a hospital refrigerator suddenly “came back to life”.

Score one for the angels.
