Birth pains and heat rash

There's a first time for everything ... well almost everything. This journal is a first for me, however. I do wonder if anyone will read this stuff, and if I'll find enough interesting things to write about. My life isn't what some would call interesting, at least now, but then again, this is really for me.

We are currently in the middle of the "Dog Days" of summer. Everyone's heard the expression, but do you know what it means? It has to do with the constellations, specifically Canis Major, the Big Dog. In the middle of summer, the so-called "dog days," it is at its highest point in the sky.

Sirius is the brightest star in the group, in the whole sky actually, a bright red one, and the ancients believed it was so bright, especially when positioned directly overhead, that it actually heated the earth. Hence those excruciatingly hot "dog days" of summer.

I'm wondering if in some parallel universe they may not have been far from the truth. Or does the physics stay the same no matter how many times you change the window? Of course, the ancients in our world were way off about so many things, and don't we know so much more about life today?

However, when you think about it, our superior intelligence doesn't make things any cooler, does it? We blame everyone and everything for the weather, except Mother Nature herself, as if she isn't mostly to blame.

Aren't women secretly at the bottom of most trouble anyway?

But what can you do about it? At least the ancients of long ago were able to curse their gods, which probably resulted in the rise of so many of the wise sayings passed down to us like, "Let sleeping dogs lie."

After all, how many wise sayings can we attribute to this modern generation? Try to come up with some yourself, but for now, the only one that comes to my mind is, "Me first!"

It's funny how so much wisdom probably had its origin in misinformation, and misinterpretation, but the end result, curiously, turned into something meaningful. Don't you think so too?

What's that? So you think I've been kidding you, huh? No, I can tell you straight up, I am totally serious.

Interesting thoughts you brought up about that star and the meaning behind that old saying.
