Small pleasures

I bought those materials I needed yesterday, 30 ft. of pressure-treated 2x4's and a bag of instant cement. Total cost for my project so far, $24.71. I tore out another 8-10 ft. of old sill, scraped out the dirt and debris in those grooves in the concrete floor, then cemented it in to hopefully help prevent the buildup of moisture.

My ribs and sides feel a little sore from the pulling and straining but my arms, wrists and shoulders are okay so far. It's pretty chilly again so I may wait for warmer hours to begin the process of cutting and installing the new sole plates.

Slowly, the little things that help make us feel civilized are creeping into my days. Yesterday I had Popeye's chicken (breast and two wings-spicy) and "dirty rice." No onion rings yet although I can make those anytime I want. Still, it's nice to get them "to go." This morning I had a bagel with a little butter and Philadelphia cream cheese with my cafe au lait. I'm almost feeling like a cosmo (not).

I've heard about Popeye's Chicken but have never eaten it, unfortunately. We don't have a Popeye's around here. I've heard it's excellent.

Hhmmm... I see from your profile you're in WJ. The nearest restaurant is probably 200 miles away. To find a Popeye's "closest" to you, go here:

They have very good biscuits and their red beans are among the best in the city here, no matter what some people might say. Very creamy and always consistent.

Dirty rice, btw, in case anyone doesn't know what that is, is a peppery rice dressing that tastes far better than the list of ingredients I won't mention.

I have certain friends on my list who love to post about food and make me hungry. I think you have just joined that elite group.

Ah, food again - and just as my tummy was rumbling! I LOVE Popeye's chicken. I always get the spicy... and my favorite side has to be the red beans and rice!

Thank you for the samples. I will print them up, read them, and get back with you (I like what I'm reading so far).

Just a suggestion... instead of burning your printer and ink cartridge up, you could copy and paste it to a Word document and then format it to book page size.

It would be easier to read although the paragraph indentations would still be missing.
