last week's power outage

In case you don't and you have a paid account, you are eligible to get your account extended by seven extra days. Go here and check out the November 13 announcement ... it only takes a few seconds:

No, you don't have to thank me ... I take care of my friends.

On a sad note, my favorite FM station since I was a "kid", WRNO (We're the Rock of New Orleans) switched to a talk format as of this morning. I was up late (early) and heard the last song they played. The song (for all you trivia buffs)? The End by The Doors. I'm a little sad. Isn't there too much talk and not enough action in this world (me included) these days? I'm sad ... and now I miss my friends too.

Sometimes the love
you leave behind
isn't enough
for love is a growing thing
hugs and kisses
pulled punches
burnt toast
twilights and sighs
tumbling down monkey hill
wrestling and white lies
you said I was handsome
but I spoke the truth
immersed in my youth
my heart on my sleeve
it was so obvious to me
to the ducks and the daffodils too
all wrapped now
in a dusty soft gauze
flickered out
with only the scent
of wax lips and vanilla creams
and starlit dreams
tear-stained cuffs
ever growing fainter here
near and not forgotten
but over

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

Jim Morrison

I'm still here though. Barely.

I hate when radio stations change format all of a sudden. Last year our "oldies" station WCKG "Magic 104" 104.3 FM switched to a adult-contemporary format without any warning. Luckily another station (94.7 FM) has since taken over the oldies format, but oldies fans had to do without for nearly a year on the radio!

I know what you mean Linda. Of course it's all about money, but once they start fooling around with the format, it never seems to stop because the changes usually don't work out. Locally-owned stations that cater to local interests, unfortunately, are fast becoming a thing of the past.

Sorry to hear about the radio station.

C'est la vie.

My favorite childhood AM station, WTIX, the mighty 690, went talk years ago, although they have an FM oldies station ... 94.3. George Buck still owns it, I believe, as well as a few other local stations in the region. He is a Jazz historian, owns a traditional jazz club in the Quarter (if it's still there) and has had a jazz radio show on Sundays that has been on the air since (I think) 1948 or so.

We had a great radio station here in the early 90s but they eventually got rid of the local DJ's and went to a syndicated format. I hate that.

No personality. It's like with CD's ... great clear crisp reproduction, but no ambient sound and no soul. I'm so not with it though ... forever an anachronism. Right Xeenie?

Hey Jeff! BTW. Did you see where Christine said she was nicer than moi? I was wondering what you and Marlene thought about that. *LOL*

Being a chicken, I am not going to comment one way or the other since I loves ya both and don't want either of you made at me.....
Nov. 15th, 2006 06:04 pm (UTC)
Of course I knew you'd say that, and I'm not mad that you think Xeenie is nicer than me. :)

Nov. 15th, 2006 06:05 pm (UTC)
Hey, I didn't say that!
Nov. 15th, 2006 06:10 pm (UTC)
Hee hee hee ... that wasn't very nice, was it?
Nov. 15th, 2006 06:17 pm (UTC)
No it wasn't! Go to your room!
Nov. 15th, 2006 06:21 pm (UTC)
She started it!

Of course you always take up for her because she's a girl.

Perhaps we should start our OWN pirate radio station. I have always thought being a DJ would be fun. =)

Re: Mmmm
I'll bet it would be fun with a sidekick like you, or if someone were your sidekick. You could tell the story of your life between songs. Maybe you should after you finish your schooling. You can do internet broadcasts now too now, like on Live365. I'd listen ... at least once.
Nov. 15th, 2006 02:55 pm (UTC)
You think the story of my life would be that interesting. haha =) maybe.

I'll massage people when I'm done with school. I'll talk to them if they want me too but I bet that'll be it. =)

Re: =P
It would certainly entertain them, although I have never had a professional massage so I don't know what atmosphere is appropriate. I'd assume it's supposed to be relaxing, and if you make them laugh or cry too much, that might be counter-productive. Of course, you certainly wouldn't want to rub them the wrong way.
Nov. 15th, 2006 03:06 pm (UTC)
No pun intended right? Yes, it's supposed to be relaxing. You usually try and mirror your client... if they talk...you talk. If they stop talking...you shut up.

Re: haha
RE: If they stop talking...you shut up.

Boy, that must really be a challenge! Must take a lot of training. Doesn't that go against the basic instincts of a woman?

KIDDING! (Kind of)

Terrible weather here. Thunderstorms and tornadoes all night. Still raining this morning. Yesterday was overcast but very nice.
Nov. 15th, 2006 03:16 pm (UTC)
I saw that =(
I was kinda worried about you guys. Brandon's parents are in LA right now.

You're so immature!

*sticks out tongue*
